Maumoon: has he lost his plot?
At the opening of the "Dhivehi Maalan" of DRP (on 28 July 2008), President Maumoon, quite dramatically, turned on a show of disgrace and pity, in a desperate attempt to ‘win the hearts’ of the Maldivian people.
He displayed to his followers a supposedly long list of liars, the list been so long that it was longer than his height (no wonder he has been in power for too long!). He exposed himself by shamelessly exposing secrets of others to achieve one’s own selfish goals! And he innocently proclaimed that he has not talked about others in such a manner before but the time has come for him to change his manner!
Anyone with the right frame of mind will agree that despite the probability that his proclamations could be true, it is still not correct to drop to such low levels and do what he did. It only showed how hungry and desperate he is to continue to stay in power! It was utterly disgraceful considering he is STILL the president of our country.
One may argue he spoke last night in the capacity as the Chairperson (Zaeem) of DRP, hence that he was exposing his political opponents. However, the stark reality of the situation is that as he clearly indicated the list of ‘liars’ he rolled out last night was that of those who met him in his capacity as the president of the Maldives! (So, if he was so keen on exposing his political rivals he should have at least resorted to the proper list :D)
His coward display can only do damage to him and his cause. The so-called “father of democracy” (by the way, what kind of democracy is he trying to bring after this show?) perhaps did not realise that no one in the Maldives, except for his puppet followers, believe him anymore. He perhaps did not remember that he has proved to the Maldivian people that he is a pathological liar who has lied to almost everyone, starting from Almighty God every time he takes the oath of presidency by His name, to the Maldivian people on countless occasions, to the international community on numerous occasions. Not only that, he perhaps forgot that he has supported the lies of his associates, he has compelled, in one way or other, his associates to lie and deceive, he has ignored the lies, deception and corruption of many of his associates and supporters.
In deed one can write volumes on this subject!
Perhaps he cannot remember or realise or comprehend any of these realities. Perhaps he just does not care about these realities.
Perhaps the time is coming for us to use our (voting) power to say NO to his lies and liars! Definitely I will not vote for a person who has proven himself to be a lying, disgraceful, hypocrite, who seems to have lost his plot-even before the real battle has begun!
