Wataniya announces 50% discount promotion to coincide with 3rd Anniversary

One of the two mobile phone service operators in Maldives, Wataniya, has announced the company will be running a special 50% discount promotion for all calls made to Wataniya numbers. The discount offer was made to coincide with the occasion of the company’s 3rd anniversary in the Maldives.

This special promotion will allow customers to call any other Wataniya number for as low as Rf 0.22 per minute on the 1st of August 2008, according to a press statement issued by the company.

Wataniya’s Chief Operating Officer, Abraham Smith said the changes Wataniya had brought to the market were nothing short of phenomenal.

“People know about that now but what we would highlight the most in these three years is the contribution to the Maldives in whole,” Smith said in the statement. “We have now enlisted the Maldives as one of the most advanced countries in telecommunications technology in the SAARC region by launching the first 3G+ HSDPA network in the Maldives. The only other country to have this so far in the region is Srilanka.”

The statement went on to say that Wataniya was looking towards a very bright future which will include instant access to TV channels and broadband internet “along with the most beneficial mobile packages this country has ever seen”.

Wataniya launched its service in the Maldives on 1 August 2005. The company provides a wide range of leading-edge wireless voice and data services, delivered with high quality, designed to cater to the demands of today’s discerning customer. Wataniya is a brand of Wataniya Telecom Maldives Pvt Ltd, which is a subsidiary of Qatar Telecom. Qatar Telecom is the exclusive telecommunications provider in Qatar.
